Well, it’s June 21st, the first day of summer, and the longest day of the year! Right now, I feel like I’ve spent it appropriately, perhaps the first time I have done so in a long time. Went to the YMCA, then went swimming with my sister’s dog, Howi, at Lyn Pitts (Lyn Valley Conservation Area, officially.) Now, I’m writing from outside, because the weather feels so perfect today. I hope you all have been enjoying the first day of summer as well.
I have an exciting announcement to make! I’ve been accepted as a contributing writer to the Brockville Observer! We’re hoping to make my column run bi-weekly, and I’ll be writing about teaching overseas and life in another country, and the whole idea of stepping outside your comfort zone to see the rest of the world. I really hope that people enjoy it, and that I’ll be able to let other people see how much fun it is to get to know the rest of the world.
Speaking of getting to know the rest of the world, yet another fun announcement! Yesterday, the tickets were bought for a 2 week trip to Japan! I’ll be going with my friend Elizabeth in August, and (hopefully), I’ll be moving to Korea to start my next long term adventure soon after! So keep an eye on this site over the summer, there’s going to be lots of travel writing soon!
So, back to the topic of summer. When I think of summer, I always find myself humming one of my summer anthems soon after. It’s a season you associate with hit songs, because they play everywhere. There’s always that one song that seems to cover exactly how you felt then, and every time you hear it, you think of that summer.
Last summer, that song for me was “Summertime” by the Japanese band NewS.
The summer before, my first summer in Japan, the summer song was definitely “Kiseki” by GreeeN.
This video is one I made, with photos from the sports day at my first school.
So what are some of your summer anthems? What do you think this year’s summer anthem will be for you? Let me know in the comments!
I’m ending this here because the mosquitoes are out now. Yup, definitely summertime.
