How to: Make a concert sign board

One of my favourite things I’ve done, fandom wise, was make my “Don’t Deny our R²π” poster to use at Inkigayo. We lucked out with getting a post-taping, so there was a mini-concert for all the KissMes that couldn’t get into the actual show. AJ spotted the poster the second he came out on stage and started singing the line, which was awesome. 🙂 And then, a week later, we brought the signs to Inkigayo again, and they were spotted once more.

Perhaps I’m just lucky, or perhaps there’s an art to making a sign worth reading on stage. Either way, I made a video of how sign boards for events like Inkigayo and fan signings are made in Korea. It’s a bit more than just making a poster and waving it around. You need to be able to keep the poster small when bring it in, so making the poster both small and durable is important.

You’re going to need some solid poster board, black take that you can put glue on, and neon coloured paper. 🙂 Oh, and a ruler and pencil.

If you do end up using this way to make a sign, take a picture and share it! I’d love to see some of the other posters out there.

  4. i would want to make one like yours but i will make it on a bigger poster board. i will hold it up by the bottom but dont you think it will fold while im holding it up because there is no support? please help

    1. If you make a board bigger than mine, and hold it up high enough that you’re worried about the sign collapsing, you should be more worried about every other person sitting behind you, because they will want to kill you. Be courteous to the people around you and don’t be too excessive or block people’s view. If you make your sign eye catching enough, size won’t be an issue.

        1. and i wont be holding it up the whole time thats why it wont block people. i wasnt being mean

          1. Well, I’ve used this size of sign from the back row of a 2PM concert and still managed to get Nichkhun’s attention. My signs are usually the biggest at the concerts I go to. However, if you do insist on having one larger, yes there is a way to hold it that it will not collapse. So long as the board is strong enough, if you keep it slightly bent when holding it, the board will stay up.

  5. Ahh, this was so useful!! ^o^ Thank you so much! 😀 Gonna go buy the materials to make a proper sign board tomorrow~ ^_^ I honestly can’t express how useful this was. I didn’t even think of folding it or writing something funny… You’re awesome :3 Thank you!!! 😀

  6. Hey! I love your idea! I am taking my daughter to her first Justin Bieber concert in a few weeks. Do you have any ideas of what I can put on her poster. I am going to do it how, you showed. Thanks so much! For any ideas:)

    1. Hey! Unfortunately, I don’t have many ideas for signs stored away, they just seem to strike once in a while. I prefer making sure it’s something I really wants to share though, and keeping it light hearted. Good luck with the sign though! Let me know how it works out! 🙂

  7. When I went to the SuJu concert in CA, USA I used the black board, though I cut it so that the sign folded straight across so it was like a long board that could fit into our bags. We also put, instead of colorful pictures, we used LED lights to draw and resemble the characters (hanja/hanzi). Also since I’m a yesung bias i put turtles on it ^^. I like your poster idea-it is so cool.

      1. I haven’t used LED lights yet. I really want to make a sign with LED lights, but I can’t think of a good use for it because my signs are usually situational. However, if you’re in Seoul, LED lights and the wiring needed for it can be found at Yongsan, in a mall called “전자랜드” or ET Land.

  8. hi! your idea seems pretty useful but if i’d stick those hearts on the folded ones all around wont that be folded and turned ugly?? send help!!!

i need exo to notice it jebal

    1. It will be folded, yes, but not ugly. You’re using bright colours so that the creases aren’t noticeable, and if you glue everything on carefully (aka making sure the board can open and close while the glue is still drying) then it won’t be a problem. All of my boards involved gluing lots of large and small pieces over folding seams, and it was sometimes tricky, but not impossible. 🙂
