I wish I could say that my life has been filled with lots of fun and excitement, with lots of interesting stories like I had during the summer. However, things have become rather routine. I like the routine though, and life is still rather interesting and fun though!
At the end of September, our school had their annual sports day. It was really fun, and I had a great time cheering on all my kids. I finally uploaded the photos the other day. They can be found here on my Flickr account.
The other day, a friend and I had a Most Excellent Adventure. Adele and I went to Kawasaki to go to the Costco.
Yes. There are Costcos in Japan. And if you thought they were amazing back home, you try being an expat, suddenly able to get the things you miss from home for the same price as back home. It’s like heaven.
I eagerly paid my registration as I saw what I would soon be able to buy. Despite the fact I was on a limited budget, I was still able to get some sorely missed items at amazing prices. I now have enough peanut butter to last through a nuclear war, and I don’t think I’ll have to buy laundry detergent again for a year. The laundry detergent is a very exciting thing to get. Washing machines here are very different to back home (though the more western versions are becoming common here.) They run only on cold water, and can ruin clothes with their spin cycle. I’m not a fan of the detergent here, it doesn’t smell like home. So I was able to pick up Tide Cold Water, which is very exciting. I finally got around to doing the laundry today, and my place smells amazing now. I didn’t realize just how much I love that smell. ^_^ I was able to get quite a few other useful things as well. As well, Adele and I were able to get everything we wanted: thanksgiving goods.
This weekend is a holiday both here in Japan, and back home. It’s Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend, and also Sports and Culture Day here in Japan. So, a few of my Canadian friends and I met on Sunday evening and had a modest Canadian Thanksgiving dinner. We picked up roasted chickens from Costco, and the largest pumpkin pie any of us ever saw. We also made stuffing and mashed potatoes. It was really awesome to be able to have a Thanksgiving, even if I am in Japan. I could have easily been homesick this weekend, but it didn’t even cross my mind. Though, I did miss them. 🙂
Today, I did a lot of cleaning. This week, I’m on Autumn Vacation, so I’m off until Thursday. I have a 2 day work week, and then another weekend! SWEET! Tomorrow, I’ll be doing some work downtown Yokosuka, filling out forms and all that jazz. Certainly a not very exciting day, I can assure you all. Ahaha. I plan on taking another video of my place soon, because I’ve moved, and since moving, I’ve really done it up nice.
