Where’s Mount Fuji?

Well, it’s finally feeling like a summer I remember in Canada. I have the windows wide open, and I’ve only had the air conditioner on once in the past few days, just to get the air in my room moving and cool the stale, bedroom in the morning air.
It hasn’t always been like this.
Other than the past two days, I can’t remember a day in the past month where the weather has been below 30, not counting humidity. I’m impressed I’m still alive, considering how not well I do with heat stroke. But I’ve adjusted. A bit. Adjusting to me means not caring how much my electricity bill is, as long as I’m sleeping at night. Me and my air conditioner have become quick friends. Last night though, I slept with the windows open, and ear plugs. Because the bugs here are two things: big and loud. And did I mention big.The cicadas look about triple the size of the ones I remember seeing at White Lake growing up.
Have people been watching the Olympics? I’ve been following as best I can, but the networks here only have been following the sports that Japan is awesome at. Lots of these are sports Canada isn’t quite so awesome at. So I’ve missed a lot of Canadian stuff, like the rowing. However, the wrestling finals were Japan versus Canada, so they ended up having to show Canada’s first gold medal. Today, I found the videos from CBC about the rowing teams, and got to see their wins. I cried both times. Hearing the national anthem over here, it made me emotional. Ahaha. Right now, I have the women’s baseball on, Canada versus Japan. We’re being destroyed. I’m not surprised. You should see how they love their baseball here. They’re playing a LOT of Canadian music at this game. WIN.
So how have I been spending my time here in Japan? …Going to Tokyo. A lot. It’s an expensive hobby, but at least I’m one of the very rare few people who actually live in an area that makes this possible. My prefecture is still considered the Greater Tokyo Area, because I can get there by commuter train. It sure does make life easier. I’ve been going to plays, buying tickets to go to the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra… I like to think it’s me living a very nice, cultured life. Instead, it’s me just finding cultured ways to enjoy what could be very silly things. Like theatre based around manga series, and orchestras playing music from video games… THEY’RE STILL THEATRE AND THE ORCHESTRA. I DON’T SEE POKEMON CULTURING ANYONE NOW, HUH?
Yeah, that’s right.
So, apparently, the rainy season and the typhoon season are two completely separate things. I learnt this today. This is me, being totally not amused. Because apparently rainy season is nothing compared to a full blown typhoon season.
*sobs* Hopefully, It’s not too bad this year. I’ve dealt with enough crappy rain for a lifetime.
