Did you know that the number 8 is a lucky number in China? So today, in Chinese culture, is the luckiest day of the century. It’s no wonder then, that at 8 pm today, the Opening Ceremonies for the summer Olympics started today.
If there’s one thing the Chinese know how to do right, it’s how to throw a party. And so far, I haven’t be disappointed. There have been more explosives set off in one hour than in most wars, and lots of bright lights and colours. Just what I like.
I spent my luckiest day of the century at the beach, but I wasn’t feeling so lucky. I forgot my swim top at home, and went in wearing my spare top, which was a strapless top. Kamakura beach gets some wicked waves, and I was afraid that my top was about to go off with the waves. Which would not have been appreciated. However, I kept my top on, and wasn’t stung by a jellyfish, which was my number one concern of the day. However, we didn’t stay all day, because it was REALLY hot. July was humid hot. Now, the humidity seems to be dropping as the heat goes up. It was about 36 degrees Celsius. Without the humidity being considered. Which is hot. So we went home around 4.
Life has been pretty… well, not quiet, but there hasn’t been much that I thought people would find interesting. I go to the beach. I go to Tokyo a lot. I go to plays and stuff. I find myself missing my kids sometimes. However, any time I do miss any of them, one of them ends up finding me at the train station. Even today, I was on the train, and it had stopped at the stop near my station, doors open, and there’s one of my kids, quick to wave to me! Thank goodness, she’s one of my quiet ones, so I didn’t have to talk to her. But it was nice knowing they like seeing me out. Ahahaha.
Well, I’m going to go back to watching the Opening Ceremonies. I hope you all enjoy the Olympics!
Oh, and… side note? I’d kinda love to get comments, if only to tell me how you’re all doing. Did you know about the 080808 thing? Watch the Olympics? Any plans for the luckiest day of the century according to China? Keep me updated! 😀
